There are moments when we genuinely look at people with awe. Be it simply listening to you when you have so much to say, bringing a smile across your face, or just lending a hand when you need it the most. These simple yet profound moments create an effect that will forever make the person special to you.
Pehchaan The Street School, not long ago, had one such special person pay a visit to one of the centres, and made the day memorable for everyone.
The air in the Indraprastha Centre of Pehchaan The Street School promised smiles, delight and the joy of giving on 9th May 2026. This was due to the arrival of entrepreneur, fashion blogger and influencer Nidhi Sharma, who, along with 3 other members, decided to spend a day with the hundreds of eager minds present there.
In her hands, she had packets of chips, Frooti, and pencils for approximately 200 students. However, what she carried with her wasn’t just snacks and stationery, rather, a heart brimming with support and the feeling of giving back to society.
The children were all thrilled to see, interact with, and receive those gifts from her. Nidhi Sharma inadvertently became one of the students, sitting with them, sharing conversations, looking at their notebooks, and becoming a significant part of their journey.
This is what children at Pehchaan The Street School, who are curious to learn, no matter what, create – an environment where people lose themselves and truly become a fellow student.
When it comes to social work, influencers serve as powerful amplifiers of voices that come from the margins of society. They make the unheard voices heard loud and clear, to thousands of people.
Nidhi Sharma’s visit filled the students with so much curiosity and excitement that readily shaking hands with her brought about laughter and enthusiasm among them. Animated discussions between her and the children filled the open air classroom that day, with Nidhi Sharma patiently listening to each of them with a kind smile.
When the children continue showing up to learn regardless of the rising temperatures in Delhi, the distribution of stationery and eatables does more than just bring out relief to students, they serve as a reward for their persistence to study even in the scorching heat.
The involvement of influencers with non-profit organisations like Pehchaan The Street School increases the self-esteem of their students, who are most often overlooked by mainstream society. Through influencers, such students get seen and acknowledged for their sheer hard work, determination and willpower. Influencers bring in the much-deserved attention, donations, volunteer sign-ups, and support to grassroots-level initiatives like Pehchaan The Street School.
These modest acts of compassion from such individuals and the community also play a key role in Pehchaan The Street School, supporting the education of 1600+ students across multiple centres. Their visits and participation in the organisation’s initiative to make education accessible to everyone not only raise public awareness on the issues they face but also invite ideas on ways to make education inclusive.
Small acts like choosing to spend some time with the students, giving what you can and engaging in simple conversations with them actually mean the world to students. They serve as a sign that more assistance is on the way for keen learners like them who have a long way to go in their educational journeys.
“Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person” -Anonymous
A striking testament to the above quote is when a student who considers a pencil a luxury holds one that is given out of kindness. That single act may just change the way the child looks at people. Providing eatables and stationery to those who consider them a privilege sends a message that they are worthy of those, too.
Beyond distribution, these visits matter, not just to the students but to the volunteers of Pehchaan The Street School as well. They act as a source of motivation and reassure the volunteers that their tireless service is recognised by society; they are offered a glimpse of the real-time impact they have created.
If such visits can create this profound an impact, imagine what would happen if every individual came together to support the mission. You don’t need a large number of followers or a great social media presence to show that you care; just a visit to one of our centres, sitting beside a child, helping them read or planning a fun activity to cheer them up can make all the difference.
If visiting the centre doesn’t feel possible, you can still share your takeaway from this post with your friends and family and encourage them to support, donate or volunteer, as change starts when you quit observing and begin participating.
