Pehchaan The Street School (Trust) is an eight-year-old organisation working across various slum areas in Delhi NCR. The primary objective of the organisation is to provide free education to underprivileged children.
“Pehchaan” means ‘Identity’. Pehchaan The Street School focuses on providing Pehchaan – an identity to underprivileged children by providing them with education. Educating underprivileged children and availing them with resources enough to become economically independent. For over 8 years now, while we have emphasized the value of education as a fundamental right that ought to be accessible to every child out there with a desire to learn, we aim to go beyond education. The institutionalization and commodification of education across our country have severely restricted the ability of the underprivileged to access means of vocational and academic studies, and that’s the barrier that we aim to break with pehchaan, the street school.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”
Pehchaan The Street School’s vision is to create a society where education is available to all irrespective of which class or economic strata they belong to. We aspire to make each child capable of being self-sufficient. moreover, bring all the facilities to them be it admissions in schools or colleges. Our vision goes beyond just education, we envision teaching the underprivileged how to create a life on their terms.
Our mission is to provide free education for underprivileged children residing on the streets and in slum areas. By providing education we further aim on making each child self-reliant by providing them with aids to attain higher education like college or avail courses of their choices at a lower price.
Our mission is to provide support to women who are considered the weaker section of society in almost all social communities across India by availing skill enhancement courses we aim on empowering them and running small businesses of their own. Our mission includes providing healthcare facilities like free health checkup camps, menstrual education, hygiene camps, legal aid, and financial support to the underprivileged section of society
We had our humble beginnings in the year 2015 with five volunteers and ten children. Today, we have over 1000 children under our aegis with more than five hundred active volunteers across 7 centers working tirelessly towards its mission. We are currently working at Indraprastha metro station, GTB Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Noida Sector 35, IIT Metro Station & Gol Gumbad. Our first ever vocational center is based out in Noida, where we teach computer courses at low prices for the underprivileged. We look forward to increasing our centers to other locations across Delhi while actively engaging bright minds to work towards a common goal. Active since 2015, Pehchaan the Street School functioned as a volunteer group for first three years but now with over 500+ active volunteers on board we have become a community to cater to the needs of an increasing number of students at our centers.
