About Pehchaan The Street School

Every Child Deserves the Opportunity to Learn, Dream and Build a Better Future.

Education has the power to transform lives, yet millions of children across India continue to grow up without access to quality learning, guidance, or opportunities. Poverty, migration, financial hardship, and social inequality often force children to leave school long before they can realise their potential.

At Pehchaan The Street School, we believe that where a child is born should never determine how far they can dream.

Founded in April 2015, Pehchaan The Street School is a registered, volunteer-driven non-profit organisation working to make quality education accessible for children living in underserved communities across Delhi NCR. What began as a small initiative with a handful of children studying under open skies has today grown into a movement supported by thousands of volunteers, donors, educational institutions and corporate partners.

Today, Pehchaan The Street School supports 1,600+ children across 10 learning centres, providing free education, school admissions, academic support, life skills, psychological well-being programmes, career guidance, vocational training and opportunities that help children build brighter futures.

Over the last 11 years, more than 5,000 children have directly benefited from our educational initiatives while 20,000+ volunteers have dedicated their time and skills to creating meaningful change in communities where education is often considered a luxury.

At Pehchaan The Street School, education is not limited to textbooks. It is about building confidence, nurturing curiosity, developing life skills, promoting emotional well-being, and helping every child discover their unique potential. Our classrooms are spaces where children are encouraged to ask questions, express themselves freely, and prepare for life beyond school.

We envision an India where every child, irrespective of background or circumstance, has access to education, dignity, equal opportunities and the confidence to create a better future.

Our Vision

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”

Pehchaan The Street School’s vision is to create a society where education is available to all irrespective of which class or economic strata they belong to. We aspire to make each child capable of being self-sufficient. moreover, bring all the facilities to them be it admissions in schools or colleges. Our vision goes beyond just education, we envision teaching the underprivileged how to create a life on their terms.

Our Mission

In April 2015, Pehchaan The Street School began with one simple belief—that education can change lives.

With no classrooms, no infrastructure, and no large funding support, a few passionate volunteers started teaching children living in nearby slum communities. Classes were conducted in open spaces, parks and community areas using simple teaching materials and an unwavering commitment to ensure that no child was denied education because of financial or social barriers.

As more children joined and more volunteers came forward, what started as a small community initiative gradually evolved into a structured educational movement.

Over the years, Pehchaan The Street School expanded beyond basic education to address the broader challenges faced by underprivileged children. The organisation introduced programmes focused on school enrolment, academic mentoring, psychological well-being, personality development, digital literacy, career awareness, vocational learning, health awareness and community engagement.

Today, Pehchaan The Street School continues to work closely with children, families, schools, volunteers, educational institutions and corporate organisations to create sustainable educational opportunities that go far beyond classroom learning.

Every milestone achieved by the organisation reflects the collective efforts of volunteers, supporters and communities who believe that education is one of the strongest tools for breaking the cycle of poverty.
