Unlocking Potential: What an Escape Room Taught Children About Teamwork and Problem Solving

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I may remember. Involve me and I learn.” This quote beautifully captures the essence of experiential learning, where active participation becomes the foundation of meaningful education.

One peaceful morning, few of our students stepped outside their comfort zones and entered a room filled with mysteries, hidden clues and questions that echoed all over.

The moment they entered, curiosity took over. The room witnessed nervousness and excitement. Some time after, one child began discussing different possibilities, questioning every clue and encouraging one another to think differently before attempting each solution.

The discussion changed everything and all of them stayed silent, finding a path to get away.

They tried different ways. Some attempts failed. Still nobody gave up. Each tiny success filled the room with laughter. Sounds of confident conversations, encouraging each other and discussion after a small confusion could be heard. By the time the final lock opened, excitement on their faces said more than words ever could.

Through this collaboration, The Hidden Hour offered students  much more than an exciting game! The escape room became a space where curiosity, teamwork, and confidence came together in an engaging learning experience.

Sometimes, all a child needs is a meaningful experience to understand their own strengths and areas for growth. Another aspect we find important is to develop critical thinking skills while working together under pressure. What stayed with us was the way they listened to each other handling the situation calmly.

At Pehchaan The Street School, such collaborations are an integral part of holistic learning. Experiences like this compliment classroom education by exposing students to real-life situations that encourage teamwork, critical thinking, confidence, and adaptability. While textbooks build knowledge, experiential learning helps children develop essential life skills that prepare them for the world beyond the classroom.

An escape room is more than a locked space. Every puzzle demands observation, communication, logical thinking, and patience.

It was about relying on each other when the answers were not pretty obvious. However, we noticed that children naturally got down to solving problems, trusting each other and kept trying altogether as a team. Along the way, there were unsuccessful attempts, moments of confusion, and strategies that needed to be reconsidered. Yet each challenge encouraged the children to think critically, communicate effectively, and persevere together. Much like life itself, the experience showed that setbacks are often stepping stones to growth when faced with patience, resilience, and teamwork.

As it is said; Alone we can do little, together we can do so much. This truth turned alive throughout the whole experience, showing hesitation being replaced by confidence.

The collaboration took forward this belief that a room with every lock inside, consists of a hidden lesson that is yet to be uncovered. The room eventually opened, but the greatest achievement was not escaping it. It was the confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills the children carried with them when they stepped outside.

At Pehchaan The Street School, collaborations like these continue to remind us that some of life’s most valuable lessons are learned not from textbooks, but through experiences that challenge children to think, trust, and grow together.

Every meaningful collaboration brings new opportunities for children to learn, grow, and dream bigger. Join us in creating many more such experiences.
