Driven by the shared vision of teamwork and a high collaborative spirit, Pehchaan The Street School and the Rotaract Club of Delhi South East recently came together to conduct an interactive session for the young and enthusiastic students. This session was primarily aimed at spreading awareness of menstrual health and hygiene, and was a step taken towards the students’ holistic development. Menstruation has been a topic that has long been surrounded by misconceptions and stigmas in many communities and has been a subject of ignorance. This event was organised as a sincere effort towards a more informed and clearer understanding among students.
Pehchaan The Street School is aimed at supporting students’ learning not only through academics, but also through awareness of important social and health-related issues. Here, we are not just responsible for teaching students the theories in the textbooks, but also for encouraging them to think critically and question misinformation. As educators and mentors at Pehchaan The Street School, it is essential that we remain sincere towards our students and guide them in the right direction and this collaborative initiative has been an excellent opportunity to take a step ahead towards empowering students.
The session was engaging and informative as it focused on helping students understand the menstrual cycle and the importance of maintaining appropriate hygiene during menstruation. The discussion also highlighted that individual experiences of menstruation can vary and how education can help students access accurate information and develop a more informed understanding of several critical aspects of their lives. Appropriate discussions can lead students to help people suffering because of obstacles related to menstrual health.
Apart from the informative session, the Rotaract Club of Delhi South East distributed sanitary napkins, chocolates, and other refreshments. The session reinforced the importance of giving students accurate information about health and social issues so that they can make informed choices and approach such topics without stigma. Students should be encouraged to question the various misconceptions surrounding menstruation and understand that it is a normal biological process. At Pehchaan The Street School, we want our students to constantly evolve, in all aspects of academics, character, capability, and community spirit.
The true essence of education and cooperation lies in students learning to critically analyse and firmly question taboos they may encounter around them. For generations, poor menstrual health and hygiene has subjected young girls and women to discrimination and inequality. This brilliant collaboration between Pehchaan The Street School and the Rotaract Club of Delhi South East has been an earnest effort towards shaping young minds and fostering a more informed and compassionate society. The session gave students an opportunity to learn more about menstrual health and hygiene and encouraged them to approach the subject with greater awareness.
