Breaking the Silence: How Volunteering Can Combat Loneliness in the Age of Social Media
In the age of social media, we’re seemingly surrounded by people and things to do all day, every day. But once we pull the plug, (literally and figuratively), we realise how lonely we truly are. Following COVID and the rise of social media, loneliness has become widespread and has been a contributing factor in the worsening of mental health among individuals in society. Lack of real-life social interactions and friendships, due to distance learning and work from home has only fueled this isolation. So what can we do to combat this ever-growing epidemic of loneliness? The answer lies in Volunteering.
Volunteering is an amazing way to not only get out of the house and contribute to society but also help foster friendships and make meaningful relationships that can last a lifetime. It doesn’t take a lot either, an hour or two every week not only enables you to develop skills in your desired field but also helps develop other soft skills such as empathy and effective communication, especially as we live in a world where we tend to interact more online rather than in person! Studies have also shown that individuals who are into volunteering have better mental health on average than those who do not partake in it. It is proven to boost confidence and help individuals feeling lost in life find purpose by working towards a shared goal of improving society.
Then the question arises, “Where should I go to volunteer?”, I’m pleased to say that Pehchaan The Street School may just be the place for you. For the past 9 years, we’ve been working tirelessly to provide underprivileged students with an education to uplift them and break the vicious cycle of illiteracy. We’re currently 500 volunteers strong and keep on growing stronger and bigger every day, with our services reaching over 1500 students across NCR and Noida, we have committed to our goal of providing quality education for the past 9 years. Not only do we offer on-ground volunteering options, but also a wide range of roles that you can pursue remotely and still get the most out of whilst making some amazing personal and professional contacts and relationships. Whether you’re into content writing, or teaching, or are a savvy social media expert, we want you to donate a bit of your time and help us reach out to every child and give them an equal chance at life, all whilst having fun and exploring the world around us.
